The Sky is Falling the Sky is falling Opinion Journal joins Weekly Standard and National Review in absurdity, my response published in Opinion Journal

UPDATE:Looking at the rest of the letters  its obvious that those who believe that President Bush may be having a problemw with the Jacksonian wing of the American public are onto to something that should be scaring the Bush Re-Election committee. The American Jacksonians dont much enjoy being told that we are going to wipe out something then a week later watch as a much more nuanced approach (even if its better) is tried.

Opinion Journal not to be left behind by those other bastions of spineless conservatives (Weekly Standard, National Review) rushes in where only John Kerry has been and attacks the President. The Conservatives are attempting to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory as is their wont.

I am impressed! The Weekly Standard is hammering the president; OpinionJournal is hammering the president. Backseat driving can be so fun eh? Turn this way, no that way, always with the advantage of not being held responsible for your ideas if they are woefully wrong. National Review is also smitten with the “Oh my God, we are losing” nonsense. Are conservatives all smoking wacky weed? This is pitiful. We finally after 35 years have a president who is taking the war to the terrorists, but no, that’s not good enough; let’s whine that he isn’t taking us exactly the route we believe is correct.

Calm down. Everything is fine. We are winning. We are winning because the only way we can lose is if we stop fighting, and the only way we will stop fighting is if the public loses faith in the war. This is the part you can affect and apparently you desire to affect it negatively.

With the president being attacked relentlessly from the left, the public was able to mostly ignore it as partisan sniping but now that all of the right has joined in well gosh something must really be wrong. The Weekly Standard is calling for Donald Rumsfeld to be fired. Are they collaborating with MoveOn, or maybe they have a supersecret alliance with Gore? And to add insult to considerable injury you people are acting as if President Bush is some babe in the wood, further confirming what the left is saying when they claim he is dumb. Hey that’s a great idea if the purpose is to replace President Bush with John Frenchy Kerry. Is that the plan?

I know it is a bitter pill to swallow, but you guys aren’t running the show. Furthermore someone whom you should respect is running the show. He won’t be running the show for very much longer if you contribute to the attacks that cause the public to lose faith in what is happening in Iraq. I know its hard for some to admit, but maybe, just maybe, Mr. Bush has a better handle on this than any of us smarty-pants pundit types. Fire Mr. Rumsfeld indeed. When I read that in The Weekly Standard I checked the cover to make sure I hadn’t gotten my neighbor’s copy of The Nation. Get a grip conservatives, show at least as much backbone as Barney the President’s Pet.
