  1. Amen to that, Pierre. My reasons for a brief “sabbatical” were nowhere near as serious as yours, but bad in their own way.

And while I got your attention, we got unfinished business. You went off on me for my “right to be left alone” thing when I said that was what the SCOTUS was groping for with “Roe V. Wade,” and I answered. Did you ever get around to reading or reacting to that?

  4. The card trick is so simple it’s easy to miss. Of course, he removes your card. Because he removes ALL the cards on the first page. None of the remaining cards on the second page are on the first page so it doesn’t matter which one you pick.

good experiment in social engineering and reading some of the other visitor’s comments shows just how easily people can be duped. Kind of explains how the Democrats ever manage to get any votes…

  5. Gonna blow the secret:

ALL the cards are changed. The initial pool features a red and black king, queen, and jack; the post-guess screen drops one card (a king in my case), but uses the alternate red and black cards. People focus on the card they choose, and ignore the other five; that’s why they don’t notice that they’ve all been changed.
