Just exactly how we will ever recover from the shame that our public officials have brought down on all of our heads is beyond me to predict. We have brought this upon ourselves by our reveling in ignorance, we have allowed this government in Louisiana to be this bad. We are to blame. No one else. President Bush didn’t elect Gov Blanco, Halliburton did not install Mayor Nagin, we did both of those terrible deeds. When we sat around the dinner table and refused to discuss politics we failed. We failed because politics must be talked about, it must be watched it must be argued. If we are too lazy to do even that, even to talk about it we cede control of our very lives to those maniacs who shut down the Bridge to the starving and the thirsty. When we decided that politics did not fit into polite conversation we ceded our lives over to incompetents like Gov Blanco and Mayor Nagin who committed so many obvious errors that they almost appear to have done these murderous acts deliberately.
Politics only demands that we educate ourselves to the actions and proposed actions of our officials. It then demands that we consider whether those actions will harm first our self interest first, then our neighbors self interest and then by discussion we can reach a consensus of what is the proper course assuming that these actions don’t violate our constitutional freedoms as set out by our State and US constitutions. We have failed to do this because we are lazy and ignorant. When the deaths of the last 2 weeks are tallied the blood will be on all of our hands because we are the ones who allowed the incompetency of the Governor and Mayor to take seats in positions of power.
