UPDATED So as not to give the wrong impression Michelle is definitely on a crusade to get the truth out. See this post.

Here is a comment I left at Wizbang about his reference to Michelle Malkin, who I respect tremendously, and her misguided article debunking some myths. And my Mother in Law is not the only one to have knowledge of the rapes inside of the Superdome. Another Doctor whose name I can provide for anyone actually interested in the facts also states that at least two rapes occured inside of the Superdome. Ross said there have been at least 2 rapes.
I am from New Orleans, I lived there most of my life and given a chance to choose whom I would believe in this situation it would be laughable to use the NOPD as a source. They have every reason to minimize the horror and abolutely no reason to admit to any wrong doing. Ask them if any NOPD officers are looting stores why don’t you Guardian?
Here is my comment on Wizbang.
===========================================================
I find it extremely distressing that Michelle Malkin has not corrected her post about debunking some myths. It is clearly incorrect in one aspect and I did in fact point this out to Michelle a couple of days ago. (via email)
My Mother in Law was in the Superdome as a Pediatrician with the City of New Orleans. She met one of the victims of a rape who was a young college student from a group of foreign students. This contrasts with the complete denial that such an event occured by the NOPD. New Orleans police have been unable to confirm the tale of the raped child, or indeed any of the reports of rapes, in the Superdome and convention centre. This is patently false and that they are using the NOPD as a source shows how out of touch the Guardian is. The NOPD was absolutely unable to control the situation in the Superdome, this isnt hearsay this is straight from the mouth of my Mother in Law who was working there trying to save lives.
So instead of debunking the Katrina Myths we are seeing the development of some myths. The myth that things weren’t so bad inside of the Superdome is the worst sort of myth. People did in fact die in the Superdome, Doctors were moved because the conditions got so bad, not once but twice.
The NOPD has a stake in this coverup as they, as well as every single local official as well as state official, were complicit in the complete breakdown of law and order. My Mother in Law who I debriefed for several hours last night kept repeating that the City had just abandoned them as if they were expendable, and that she was fearing for her life most of the time. The NOPD is putting the shine on and that an English paper buys it doesn’t bother me but when Bloggers who should know better start buying into the Meme then we have problems.
It would be nice if the supposedly legendary fact checking of the Blogsphere would at least be a bit skeptical of the local officials that are running that debacle in New Orleans.
