As we watch one of the most beautiful countries in the world get torn apart by the sort of thuggery that has always seemed to be part of Islam I wonder would Muhammed have defined himself as an Islamist? How would President Bush describe Muhammed? Would he describe him as a moderate, peaceful man or would he describe him as an Islamist?
Surely Muhammed would describe himself as an extremist and isn’t that the definition of an Islamist ultimately? Or is the definition of an Islamist one who is strict in his interpretation of the Koran? What makes one an Islamist?
The Devil is in the details and exactly how is it possible to get the details correct if your definitions differ from the definitions offered by those you attempt to define? Meaning exactly how does one deal with Islam if one denies its definition of itself?
There is plenty of terrific reporting going on right now by people who understand the importance of the details. Brussels Journal is near the top along with ¡No Pasarà n! 5 Some of my favorites are here , here which included a terrific offer of help for Chirac from Kadhafi , here “Wake up and Smell the Molotov Cocktails and here “Not that I’m on a crusade or anything — After all, the word might hurt someone’s feelings” .
