Washington Post takes a stab at being an apologist for Islam and fails miserably. Quoting Juan Cole didn’t help matters.
Islam is not suffering because we know too little but because we are beginning to know too much. Islam has been at war with the west for over 1,300 years with lulls as first one side then the other waxed and waned. That some try to portray this as a recent phenomenon is dishonest and in a sense Bin Laden himself is more honest than those so-called “Moderate” Imams. He has the decency to declare out-loud what others believe, that he is fighting for lands lost hundreds of years ago. Indeed if this war should end with the West finally winning, we will get to write the history. No doubt some credit will go to those radicals who murdered thousands of us and reminded us of the danger of Islam, and we will owe those radicals in some sense a thank you.
To declare a religion, that has sanctioned or given sanction to the murder of millions of people around the world, is now without any significant “reformation” the religion of peace is a lie of such a magnitude as to make Stalin and Mao blush with embarrassement that they were so coy with their own mass murdering ways. From the first baby steps of wiping out a tribe of Jews by personally loping off the heads of the males and raping the women in Medina to bold mass murder of the Hindus 1in such numbers that the spot is called Hindu Kush (Hindu Slaughter) to the murder of upwards of a million Armenians by a supposedly secular state that happened to be the center of Islam for sometime. Well like my mom has said, “I didn’t fall of the turnip truck yesterday”.
To blame George Bush for the awakening of the West to this mortal danger against the liberal traditions it fought so hard to establish is a monumental lie. He did not run the Jets into the Towers , he did not set Paris afire , nor did he shoot Pim Fortuyn , Theo Van Gogh and others, he did not blow up Bali , hang young women 2, crush homosexuals 0 beneaths walls of stone, blow up statues, declare that to leave Islam was punishable by death, and the thousands of other vulgar facts that caused even our brutal ancestors to know that Islam was a mortal enemy. We did not ask that Islam mourn our losses as we did on 9/11 we merely hoped that some regret would be shown. We would have thought it decent if your greatest Mufti’s would have issued fatwas declaring Bin Laden to be an apostate for his mass murder of us. You remained silent and his popularity in Islam soared, we noticed.
We have tried to allow you some space inside of the borders of this great country but you have refused our hospitality and with every breath have tried to subvert what we hold to be inviolate. We are not amused and it shows.
