Hugh Hewitt gets it. If Israel refuses to take this war to it’s logical conclusion, the elimination of Syria as a sponsor of terror along with the direct challenge to Iran to defend Syria then it will have failed in much the same manner as we all failed to contain the German madman, so long ago. The risk to the Israelis from failure is dangerously high given that their enemies are only getting stronger with more terrible weapons. But I want to be clear this is our war as much as the Israelis.
Hugh Hewitt Iran’s nuclear ambitions and Hezbollah’s longer-range missile capabilities are what make this Middle east war different from the rest. If Israel stops short of forcing Syria and thus Hezbollah from Lebanon, it will confirm Tehran’s working assumption that there will never be successful opposition ot its nuclear program, and Syria’s view that it need only pretend not to be in Lebanon. Postponing the confrontation with these two regimes does not equal containment, but rather a strategic victory for them on the order of Hitler’s triump at Munich.
As I pointed out in my earlier post Wahhabism our enemy? What about the Shiites until 9/11 they killed more Americans we are not only facing Wahhabists in our battle against Islamic fanatics as many have tried to insinuate. Indeed until our multi billion dollar intelligence agencies failed and allowed Bin Laden’s scraggly bunch to succeed on 9/11 Shiite Muslims sponsored by Iran managed to murder far more of us than anyone else (See Wahhabism our enemy for details of their terror). When the Hezballah murdered 241 Marines in Lebanon that was single largest day of death for the US Marines since Iwo Jima.
It appears now, with this latest assault on Israel, that Iran is not only interested in talking about destroying Israel but may actually be attempting to bring this about. Hezballah is a creature of Iran and when you see the Hezballah puppet in action you can be sure that the strings reach all the way back to Iran passing through Syria merely for appearances sake.
The question on everyones mind when Ahamdinejad was ranting months ago was “is this freak serious”? Can be answered now. Yes he was very serious. Where does that lead us then? Shouldn’t we take a look at all of his threats under this new understanding of his ability to carry out his threats?
Israel may not actually have the force projection ability to eliminate the Iranian madman but we do. At one point or the other we will be forced to remove another one of the worlds madman. The only question will be, do we wait long enough for him to acquire nuclear weapons or do we catch him early showing that indeed we learned the lesson of Hitler and Tojo. This is our war, when will we start fighting?
