Shocked that the CIA missed on the estimate of Hezballah abilities…great work guys!

UPDATE: Rightwing Nuthouse with more

Man I tell you I was shocked, shocked I tell you when I read that our intelligence agencies were caught “off guard” by the sophistication of the missiles being fired into Israel. After all they have had such a sterling record of prognostication these last few years, being caught “off guard” by India’s test of a Nuclear weapon, being caught off “guard by Pakistans test of the same, etc…guess super sleuth Joe Wilson was busy.

With people like Valerie Plame working for them I would be surprised if the agency could predict which part of the horizon the sun would rise on. Ooh sorry I “outed” a supersecret agent…”outed” hehe…love that word makes me feel so like an insider. We need to “out” a few hundred/thousand more incompetents in the CIA before we can hope to get our money’s worth. But I digress.

Arming of Hezbollah Reveals U.S. and Israeli Blind Spots – New York Times
WASHINGTON, July 18 — The power and sophistication of the missile and rocket arsenal that Hezbollah has used in recent days has caught the United States and Israel off guard, and officials in both countries are just now learning the extent to which the militant group has succeeded in getting weapons from Iran and Syria. While the Bush administration has stated that cracking down on weapons proliferation is one of its top priorities, the arming of Hezbollah shows the blind spots of American and other Western intelligence services in assessing the threat, officials from across those governments said.

I was under the impression forgive me if I am wrong that we are supposed to be going after these regimes of terror. Not sure but being surprised by what these terror nations are able to field as far as weapons are concerned doesn’t make me feel all warm and cuddly at night. Weapon systems have to be tested, transported, ordered, trained with and we are “surprised”…which set of children are running the CIA these days?

And we will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism. Every nation, in every region, now has a decision to make. Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists. (Applause.) From this day forward, any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime.

Maybe President Bush was just using a bit of rhetorical flourish when he uttered that imminently sensible call to arms. Perhaps he just didn’t mean it. Axis of Evil??? After all if he meant that wouldn’t he have fired nearly everyone involved in allowing the worst terrorist attack in history to happen. The most expensive set of intelligence agencies in the world, whose sole mission is to prevent such attacks, allowed a bunch of scraggly Arabs to destroy major parts of a US City, attack the Central Headquarters of the Military and only by the heroism by amateur’s was the Capital saved from a similar fate. Sorry I digress…it still pisses me off that basically no one in Government paid for that massive unequaled failure with their jobs. Not asking that they be stood up against a wall and shot for their failure (one could hope), merely wondering why no one was at least fired. Anyways back the misery at hand.

At the same time, American and Israeli officials cautioned that they had found no evidence that Iranian operatives working in Lebanon launched the antiship missile themselves.

These guys say stuff like this with a straight face? They missed the facts about a weapon system being tested then transported to Hezballah which their super secret, ridiculously expensive sensors might have been able to pick up and yet they want us to believe they might know the difference between which Ali was running the system. Ok yea this is a bit of projection by the CIA because only they would be stupid enough to believe that we might buy into that nonsense.

But neither Jerusalem nor Washington had any idea that Hezbollah had such a missile in its arsenal, the officials said, adding that the Israeli ship had not even activated its missile defense system because intelligence assessments had not identified a threat from such a radar-guided cruise missile.

This is too much for even a dumb country boy like me to swallow. It is published information that Iran is producing this weapon after buying the technology from China and it is also fairly common knowledge that Iran is Hezballah’s main sponsor and yet no one connected the two. Well gosh now I feel a whole bunch safer.

The Bush administration has long sought to focus attention on Iranian missile proliferation, and regularly discusses with journalists intelligence evidence of those activities. But American officials in Washington made clear this week that they were reluctant to detail Iran’s arming of Hezbollah in the current conflict. The reason, according to officials across the government, was a desire by the Bush administration to contain the conflict to Israeli and Hezbollah forces, and not to enlarge the diplomatic tasks by making Iranian missile supplies, or even those of Syria, a central question for now.

Anyone see an “Axis of Evil” running around loose? Just wondering because you know I sort of took President Bush at his word when he declared so defiantly that either you are with us or with the terrorists. Is he waiting for a mushroom cloud to form over his head before he lives up to his brave words? Is he waiting for the latest attempt by our Government to cover their asses, the vaunted National Intelligence Director, to remove his head from his ass and alert the world that we have finally figured out who blew up the Marines in Lebanon?

This is our war and the sooner we get involved in fighting the less chance we have of facing a nuclear armed country of Islamic warriors. Make no mistake no matter what they say Iran is working as hard as they can to get a nuclear sword to smite our necks. Israel is doing the heavy lifting right now but it is outside of their ability to attack and depose the terrorist regime of Iran. Iran has been on a 20 year binge of attacks against this nation, exactly when do we start fighting back? When a few thousand of us die at once?

  1. Gen Zinni put himself in the role of a smart Iran and did just this to the US Blue force during many exercises. Isreal and the CIA need to go back and look at the “unrestrained” exercises where top US manueverists commanded the opfor.

I also find it really strange that after Isreal lost half their armor to Saggers and much of their Air Force to SAMs in the last wars, the CIA does not see missiles as a huge threat.

    Idiots.
