The only way the current conflict can be considered “Stateless” is by using the quaint definition that applied in the 19th and early 20th century. A “State”, by this definition, was a clearly defined geographical area with a reasonably functioning form of government. This definition has not applied since the end of WW II and the ascension of the USSR. Had the Cold War gone hot, the US would have confronted not Russia, but 15 plus “States”. Further, proxy wars such as Korea and Vietnam were not between competing “States” but between competing ideologies. To continue to consider this the definition of “State” is pure folly. War is no longer fought between “States” but, rather, ideologies.

The term “State” can now only be defined as those nations that either tacitly or explicitly support a distinct ideology. Their geographical location and form of government has become superfluous. The ideology with which we are in conflict is no longer Communism but Radical Islamism. The “State” that has confronted us is the entire Arab and Persian world.

So far, we have attempted to resolve this conflict by using limited military force along with encouraging the formation of more enlightened governance in the Middle East. Up until recently, I believed this would work. I believed in the courage and basic decency of the Arabs and Persians. Facing the realities of Muslim reactions and the West’s apparent lack of resolve, this hope is fading quickly. Should this current approach fail, I envision a horror of such magnitude that WW II will pale in comparison.

hehe...Wow who would have thought it was so simple. You mean those stateless terrorists of yours did it all by their lonesome? And what about Hezb'Allah? They managed the second worst terror attack against the United States and they weren't Wahhabists! Oops guess that kinda screws up that theory.
