So then, to help those of you Republicans and Independents who are deciding not to support Republicans because of other sins, I include this letter to remind you who you are betraying with your petulance.
I think that as a society we’ve become a bunch of weak sisters. We’re not in it for the fight.
On one hand, [the American people] support the troops, but it’s only to a certain extent. They have a misconception that all wars should be fought in three days, no casualties. Declare victory, come home and have a parade. In World War II they sent you to combat and you came back when the war was over. It wasn’t for a seven-month or 13-month tour. And [America] saw you through the duration.
What really hurts is when I see my country torn in half over a political issue. Let’s get behind it regardless of what you think. People are unwilling to see what we’re doing is worthwhile.
It’s a classic good vs. evil battle. And the evil is the terrorists and they can strike us anywhere. They’re not going to go away. We’re in here for the long haul.
Yea we are all upset about Immigration, but it doesn’t match up against cutting and running from Iraq in particular and the terror war in general.
No doubt that the prescription drug benefit is a huge boondoggle, but when has a government program not been a boondoggle? But 10 of those boondoggles wouldn’t equal one cutting and running.
I agree that No Child Left Behind is absurd, the first hint of it’s absurdity was that Ted Kennedy supported it. But even if Dean, Pelosi, Kucinich and the rest of the craziest moonbats had written it and backed it, even that wouldn’t come close to comparing to the disaster of cutting and running.
McCain~Feingold is an ugly nasty attempt to provide protection to a class of people who richly deserve to be thrown out on their ear. Except that this same group of people stand between us and a bunch of maniacs who wish not only to take away our right to free speech but our very right to life. So like it or not we need them. But lets not forget, lets promise ourselves that once we defeat these maniacs we revisit all these betrayals of our principals. But first lets win. Democrats equal defeat against the Islamists…they simply do not acknowledge the war.
We must win against the Islamists. Naturally we all prefer to win pretty but in our desire to win pretty we mustn’t forget that winning ugly is better than cutting and running. We have been misled into believing that we can win this war pretty. President Bush was not the one who declared the war would be easy. We are the ones who preferred to hear what we wanted to hear, that winning wouldn’t mean any sacrifice of our cuddly existence.
This war will be won ugly, water boarding, innocents dying, cities destroyed, thousands perhaps millions dying, but we must remember that if we give up by electing the Democrats the worst scenarios become much more possible. Not less likely. Our enemy does not honor cowardice and weakness, he takes advantage of it. If you wish to see what happens to those who show weakness to our enemy one need only witness what happens to women in their “societies”.
So tomorrow swallow your anger and hurt feelings. Get out and vote Republican. Bring friends, drive folks to the polls. We simply cannot allow this war to be lost because of petulance. Allowing the Democrats to win will lose us this war. There simply are not enough men of character and fortitude in the Democratic party to carry on in a hard war. Pray that we have enough in the Republican party.
