Vicar Self-Immolates himself to warn of Islamization in Europe

So then exactly what sort of desperation drives a person to set fire to himself? Isn’t burning to death on of the great fears of all mankind? Yet this man sat down wrote a suicide note and then deliberately engulfed himself in flames.

On Tuesday a Lutheran vicar set himself alight 0 in the German town of Erfurt. The 73 year old Roland Weisselberg poured gasoline over himself and set fire to himself in the Erfurt monastery, where Martin Luther took his monastic vows in 1505. Tuesday was a national holiday in parts of Germany to celebrate the Protestant Reformation. Bystanders rushed to extinguish the flames. Weisselberg later died of his injuries.

In a farewell letter to his wife the vicar wrote that he was setting himself on fire to warn against the danger of the Islamization of Europe. During the past four years the vicar had frequently expressed his concern   about the expansion of Islam, urging the Lutheran Church to take this issue seriously. As the fire started the vicar cried: “Jesus and Oskar!” Oskar Brüsewitz   was a 47-year old German vicar who died after setting himself on fire 30 years ago, on 18 August 1976, in the market square of the German town of Zeitz in protest against the Communist regime in East Germany.

I am guessing that Ralph Peters though would probably think this poor man was a fool. Probably would have put him in the same category as a group he described here:

A RASH of pop prophets tell us that Muslims in Europe are reproducing so fast and European societies are so weak and listless that, before you know it, the continent will become “Eurabia,” with all those topless gals on the Riviera wearing veils.

Ralph Peters has been in a debate with both Mark Steyn 3 and Paul Belien  Â over his belief that they are both, Steyn   and Belien  , pop prophets who don’t know what they are talking about regarding the Islamization of Europe.

Roland Weisselberg was not available to rebut any charges of being a Pop Prophet, which Peters might be distasteful enough to level at him. Unlike Peters he saw the slide into an Islamic Europe first hand and thought it alarming enough to pour gasoline over his body and set himself alight to draw attention to the danger. Pop Prophet indeed.

Ralph Peters fancies himself a bit of a reverse Crusader, protecting Islam from the attacks of those, like Roland, unwise enough to be worried about it. A couple of months ago he took off on a rant that was shocking for its idiocy for a man who has also been capable of some brilliant thought   from time to time. That is what makes these sorts of flights into lunacy so dangerous, he has credibility brought on by his increasingly rare moments of lucidity. I took him to task for that rant back here  .

What to do?

So what are we to do? Well a group of us have joined together to start fighting back against the propaganda and disinformation that masquerade for fact on the MSM and in the world as a whole. We are fighting back against Islamic fundamentalists who have been winning the propaganda war so far. Fighting back against the leftists whose nihilistic view of the world has them allied with the very folks who are the antithesis of everything they supposedly believe in.

Course the truth is out, they don’t believe in anything but death. We call ourselves the 910 Group  , we have allied to Jack Wheeler and Steve Baldwin two of the great Anti Communist warriors in the Reagan years. Both have decided that Islamofacism has become a bigger threat than our nation than even Communism was during the heyday. See their email  . All of this has come about due to the untiring efforts of Baron Bodissey and Dymphna  Â of Gates of Vienna 6. See this particular post for the details of our alliance.

The fight is on. Don’t listen to the likes of Ralph Peters, instead try to understand the desperation that drives a man to pour gasoline over his body and set himself alight. Then decide to not allow the United States to go the same way. If you live in Europe then decide that the enemy advances no farther. After the decisions are made, take the actions to make sure those decisions are not mere empty hopes, but concrete actions.

  1. Good points but I guess I was just impressed by his conviction. Truth is I was impressed as well by the conviction of the Anti War freak who self immolated.

I would judge one crazy and the other not, based merely on my prejudice regarding the ideas they died for. Does that make any sense? Into my 3rd glass of wine so it may not.

  2. I’m as concerned about the threat of Militant Islam as mostly anyone is. I agree that we’re in a battle for the survival of Western Civilization, and will go along with pretty much any other characterizations you choose to apply regarding just how serious it is.

But try as I may, I cannot see anyone who sets themselves on fire to protest something as being “desperate”. Unbalanced, yes. Irrational? That, too.

If Vicar Weisselberg’s actions are somehow so compelling, are we to give equal weight to those of the individual who immolated himself a couple of weeks ago to protest our (United States) involvement in Iraq? He also apparently felt strongly motivated to make a statement. But the only message that behavior of that type, from any quarter, sends to me is that they were not of sound mind. Be it noted that I don’t see it being a very large step at all from that sort of “protest” to becoming a suicide bomber.

I’m seriously supportive of the 910 group, though. But that’s because I don’t support suicidial gestures on a National or Civilizational scale either.
