US Troops authorized to kill the Iranians who have been killing them for the past 2 years…we used to just blow kisses to them

Alrighty then so for the past 2 years Iranians have been doing a bang up job of killing Americans. Supplying training, equipment and funds for a bunch of murderous thugs trying to defeat the worlds greatest superpower. Naturally that is accounting for only recent past because prior to 9/11 Iranian sponsored terrorists managed to kill more Americans than any other terrorist group, Marine Barracks, Hezb’Allah anyone? And we are just now getting around to being authorized to kill them back. Neat. But even that has the Washington post scratching its head.

Troops Authorized to Kill Iranian Operatives in Iraq

Administration Strategy Stirs Concern Among Some Officials

Stirs concern among some officials? How about Iran killing our soldiers has stirred up some concern amongst the families burying fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, wives, husbands and friends. How about that??? Exactly who are these “officials” who pervert US Policy to fit their own craven view of the world?

The Bush administration has authorized the U.S. military to kill or capture Iranian operatives inside Iraq as part of an aggressive new strategy to weaken Tehran’s influence across the Middle East and compel it to give up its nuclear program, according to government and counterterrorism officials with direct knowledge of the effort.

Bout time and what took so long President Bush? You named the Iranians as part of an axis of evil and yet you stood by and allowed them to murder US Marines and other service members.

For more than a year, U.S. forces in Iraq have secretly detained dozens of suspected Iranian agents, holding them for three to four days at a time. The “catch and release” policy was designed to avoid escalating tensions with Iran and yet intimidate its emissaries. U.S. forces collected DNA samples from some of the Iranians without their knowledge, subjected others to retina scans, and fingerprinted and photographed all of them before letting them go.

Are they serious? They caught these murderous assholes then they let them go?!?!?! My head is going to explode. Furthermore, as if all of this isn’t bad enough, there exists people inside of our government who have surely seen those planes diving into our buildings who think that “catching and releasing” is intimidating? Tell me who so that I can personally slap their stupidity out of them.

Last summer, however, senior administration officials decided that a more confrontational approach was necessary, as Iran’s regional influence grew and U.S. efforts to isolate Tehran appeared to be failing. The country’s nuclear work was advancing, U.S. allies were resisting robust sanctions against the Tehran government, and Iran was aggravating sectarian violence in Iraq.

Last summer the administration decided that a more confrontational approach was necessary….after 26 years of killing Americans, last summer we decided that our catch and release program, which admittedly was a step above our turn the other cheek approach was not confrontational enough. Okey dokey

“There were no costs for the Iranians,” said one senior administration official. “They are hurting our mission in Iraq, and we were bending over backwards not to fight back.”

They are “hurting” our mission in Iraq. Ok what I want to see is that knuckleheaded administration official stand before a father at his son’s funeral and say that Iran is “hurting” our mission in Iraq. Exactly how out of touch are those schmucks in Washington? Which leads me to believe that the only way we will get serious about not wasting the lives of the best army the world has ever seen is for the price of failure to be born by those who make policy. And no this is not some Right Wing rehash of the discredited leftwing chickenhawk meme.

No I have absolutely no problem with our lawmakers and policy wonks not having any experience on the battlefield. Sure it might be better in general if they did but it is not a requirement. But what is a requirement is for those who commit our soldiers to battle to never forget that they have a solemn contract not to piss away the lives of our soldiers. To protect those lives as if those soldiers were family, not a bunch of strangers that politicians feign regret over when some 7th century group of thugs murder them.

But I fear that no one in Washington has that feeling. None of them shed tears as you and I do when we read the stories of such brave hearts as 2LT Mark Daily and they should. Perhaps it will take their losing family to know what sort of reverence they must show towards the lives of the soldiers they thrust into harms way. Perhaps only when some sort of terrible attack occurs in Washington DC will those policy wonks and politicians understand that while it is ok to go to war it is not ok to waste lives while dancing some sort of Pas de Deux with international terrorism. You don’t negotiate with terrorists and those who sponsor them. You eliminate them. You kill them and destroy their homes striking fear and terror into the hearts of those who stand near to them.
