Why the murder rate may start spiraling out of control again with thinking like this. See there is a reason why Blacks get frisked a lot more often than whites. And its not what you think.

NYPD frisked blacks at 5 times rate of whites

The NYPD conducted more than 500,000 stop-and-frisks last year, with blacks five times more likely to be searched than whites, according to statistics released yesterday.

Blacks accounted for 52% of the 508,540 individuals stopped and checked last year, according to data released by the City Council’s Public Safety Committee.

When David Dinkins was Mayor the city’s murder rate was out of control. No I am not saying it was his fault but I am saying it reached is apogee while he was Mayor. Giuliani becomes Mayor in 1994 campaigning on reducing the horrendous crime rate in New York City. The murder rate drops by nearly 400 murders in his first year. Guess who benefited the most from the lower murder rate? Blacks…and yet the entire time Giuliani was Mayor he was dogged by the same accusations of racism that lie beneath this purported study by the City Council’s Public Safety Committee. Why do I say that Blacks benefited the most from his policies?

Consider that nationwide Blacks are 6 times more likely than Whites to be the victims of murder. They are 7 times more likely Whites to commit murder, if you are skeptical of those figures see this Justice Department page . In the City of New York they account for 27% of the population and yet they account for around 50% of victims of murder.

Perhaps it might behoove people in New York to tread cautiously before they start modifying the sorts of successful policies which led to saving approximately 1700 lives. Given the rate that Blacks suffer from murder nearly 850 blacks are alive today that would have been dead under the old rules.
