Arming pilots…on International flights

Was reading this interesting bit the United States Government’s desire to enable pilots on International flights to carry weapons. Naturally in any article on using guns as protection there is always the twit who declares that you won’t be able to get to your weapon in time to stop the crime or some variation of that same theme.

Aviation security consultant Rich Roth said some pilots “feel better” carrying guns, but he doubts they could thwart a hijacker. “If you’re sitting in the flight deck and they get through, you have no time to do anything with a weapon,” Roth said. It is folks like that security “consultant” who make our lives more dangerous than they have to be. We are supposed to remain defenseless while “security consultants” get their shit together and “save” us. Lets remember, we said we would never forget, that on Flt93 there were no “security consultants” available, no Delta Force, no Seals, no Marines…but the pilots were warned a full 5 minutes prior to the cockpit intrusion. The cockpit is a tight space and trying to rush the pilot while he unloads his weapon into your face would make for a real short hijacking attempt.

9:23 a.m.

United Airlines Flight 93 receives a warning from flight dispatch, “Beware any cockpit intrusion - two aircraft hit World Trade Center.”

9:25 a.m.

The Otis Air Force-based F-15s close the airspace over Manhattan.

9:26 a.m.

The FAA grounds all domestic flights.

The United Airlines Flight 93 pilot asks for confirmation of the 9:24 a.m. message, “Beware any cockpit intrusion - two aircraft hit World Trade Center.”

9:28 a.m.

United Airlines Flight 93 is hijacked.

A .45 with an extra clip would have gone a long way to allowing those hero’s to come home instead of crashing into a Pennslyvania farm while some 7th century thug screams Allah Akbar.

  1. I’d take it a step further.

No rational person, or at least me, would fly with an unarmed cockpit crew. In fact, I won’t fly commercial myself, since they’ve gotten so idiotic about it all.

In this day and age, anyone who runs around unarmed is, at the minimum complacent, and probably very optimistic.

We have the Second Amendment for a reason. If I can’t use it, I won’t travel with them.

    Heh.

That pretty much restricts me to the highways, the way things are going, but I can deal with that. Given the tendency of some Islamics to want to hijack aircraft, I won’t go on them unarmed. All the “security” does is make me keep the highways hot. Given that I can be anywhere in the ConUS from my location in about 36 hours, that’s good enough for me.

But I’m a fanatic. I think anyone with any sense should be armed at all times. And all things considered, the way things are now, why wouldn’t you be?

They may well find me dead in a ditch some day, but I’ll be in the middle of a pile of brass.
