Giuliani has been trying to slide by on abortion…today he got cornered. Oops.

Ooops….

“Ultimately, it’s a constitutional right, and therefore if it’s a constitutional right, ultimately, even if you do it on a state by state basis, you have to make sure people are protected,” Giuliani said in an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash in Florida’s capital city.

A video clip of the then-mayoral candidate issuing a similar declaration in 1989 in a speech to the “Women’s Coalition” appeared recently on the Internet.

“There must be public funding for abortions for poor women,” Giuliani says in the speech that is posted on the video sharing site YouTube. “We cannot deny any woman the right to make her own decisions about abortion.”Source: CNN.com – CNN Political Ticker

That is simply a little bit scary. I may love Giuliani for his steadfastness regarding our Islamic foes but I do not enjoy funding abortions. His reasoning is not very comforting either.

Declaring that because it is a constitutional right I must fund that right has me worried. Am I supposed to buy first amendment rights for loudmouths who cannot buy a minute on the tube? Maybe that loudmouth chucklehead wants a Super Bowl minute? Or perhaps I need to fund my next door neighbors desire to exercise his 2nd Amendment rights by purchasing that sweet Super Match M1A from Springfield he has been lusting over.

Or maybe its because its about poor…maybe its because the Republican party is changing into the Democratic party of the 60’s where need meant everything. Naturally the current Democratic party has moved far past judging handing my money out based on mere need. No at this point the Democratic party doesn’t even play like need drives the handouts. Now it is simply they know better than I do what to do with my money. Always counted on the Republicans to slow that crap down.

Good to know where Giuliani stands on the issue. Squarely with whomever needs my money has some sort of claim on it. Well sorry folks but need does not impress me. And those politicians who think I should give up my right to my money based on need do not impress me. No matter how steadfast they are regarding the war. There are others who understand my rights to my labor who are also steadfast on the war.

  1. Yup Ron Paul has some good ideas…but some of his stuff rubs me the wrong way though I need to read more before passing judgement. Thanks for the link and look forward to doing some more reading.

  2. On the matter of whether the government should be involved in ‘charity’ or not, I don’t know if you’ve ever had the pleasure of reading this little gem:
    http://www.house.gov/paul/nytg.htm
It is an excerpt from _The Life of Davey Crockett_ titled “Not Yours to Give” and was distributed by Rep. Ron Paul of Texas. I don’t know anything about Ron Paul, but I find the article well worth the read. Think limited government.

  3. We’re in agreement on Rudy, unfortunately no one else is thrilling. Fred looks passable, Mitt about the same and Newt isn’t in yet. McCain and Feingold are out chasing campaign integrity by killing the constitution and I’m not sure that if we get one we won’t get both. It’s not looking good.
