This was no victory for America. We were humiliated right there alongside the smiling loons aka “the Hostages” and Blair. Iran rubbed our noses in the fact that we are completely unwilling to actually win in Iraq. Surge or no surge our victory will never happen as long as Iran is free to train, equip and fund the terrorists we are fighting against in Iraq. And we signaled our unwillingness to stop any of that by our return of one of Iran’s top officers in her feared Quds Force.
Iran is equipping anyone who has shown the will to fight us in Iraq, Sunni, Shiite, Al Qaeda, doesn’t matter. Until we hold Iran to account for this the war will drag on just as Vietnam dragged on because we were completely unwilling to hold North Vietnam to account by seriously attacking it. At least in Vietnam we had the excuse that we did not want to risk another war with China or Russia. What are we afraid of with Iran?
The Surge will not work until we stop Iran and Syria from supplying the weapons, men and training that are killing Iraqi and US soldiers in Iraq. It is simply foolish to think that we can have two belligerent states bordering Iraq continuing to commit acts of war against our troops while we look the other way and this will result in anything but defeat.
The capture and release of the British hostages illustrate once again the fatuousness of the “international community” and its great institutions. You want your people back? Go to the European Union and get stiffed. Go to the Security Council and get a statement that refuses even to “deplore” this act of piracy. (You settle for a humiliating expression of “grave concern.”) Then turn to the despised Americans. They’ll deal some cards and bail you out.
