Gaia faces stiff fines for causing ecological disaster in the Solomon Islands

Alrighty now read this article and see if you don’t get the same impression that I got. That these folks are almost resentful that Gaia (mother earth for those of you who don’t get out much) committed a crime by raising this island and killing this coral.

RANONGGA, Solomon Islands (AFP) – The seismic jolt that unleashed the deadly Solomon’s tsunami this week lifted an entire island metres out of the sea, destroying some of the world’s most pristine coral reefs.

In an instant, the grinding of the Earth’s tectonic plates in the 8.0 magnitude earthquake Monday forced the island of Ranongga up three metres (10 foot).

Submerged reefs that once attracted scuba divers from around the globe lie exposed and dying after the quake raised the mountainous landmass, which is 32-kilometres (20-miles) long and 8-kilometres (5-miles) wide.

Corals that used to form an underwater wonderland of iridescent blues, greens and reds now bleach under the sun, transforming into a barren moonscape surrounding the island.

The stench of rotting fish and other marine life stranded on the reefs when the seas receded is overwhelming and the once vibrant coral is dry and crunches underfoot

The ecofantasy world that these guys must live in is getting sadly funny…or it would be if they weren’t so damn dangerous. Remember if they resent Mother Earth for being well Mother Earth they cannot be too happy about you staining their pristine picture of earth.

  2. I’ll donate the snow on my property to the cause-the snow that started falling here in OCTOBER! AlGore should be forced to live here as penance.

  3. Rather than get mad at Gaia they should get an old fire pump and keep the coral wet. That’s the least that they could do for the environment. And they shouldn’t stop till the island drops down to normal elevation again. How ever long that takes.

  1. [...] I am always being told that global warming is going to raise sea leaves and such. So you think that people living on an island would be happy to have an earthquake that rises said island up in the air by 10 feet. But no, they are crying about what a catastrophe it is (h/t Pierre Legrand). [...]
