Kill the Bill, Round 2…Defeating the Open Borders Crowd

You know it strikes me that folks like the President maybe really aren’t classical open border advocates. After all they seem to have a special place in their heart for illegal immigrants. Perhaps it really is about allowing as many illegal immigrants into the country as possible? How else can you take advantage of the low costs if the workers are not illegal? Legal workers are covered by laws that force businesses to pay much more.

A classical open border advocate would be driven to reduce the disparity between what an illegal costs to a business and what a legal worker costs. This would of course drive down the need for illegals signficantly. I don’t see any talk of such moves on the part of the Bush Administration. Don’t even see any talk of that amongst the “so-called” free market crowd like Larry Kudlow or the Wall Street Journal.

Hmm…maybe the motives of the Shamnesty crowd is something other than worrying about the costs to business.

  1. Please go read this extraordinary statement by Newt Gingrich RIGHT NOW:

    Point 2 says:
“The Attempt to Blackmail the American People by Threatening to Refuse to Enforce the Law Without a New Bill Is Disgraceful: A number of powerful figures in the Bush Administration and in the Senate have been saying that if we do not agree to pass this destructive bill, they will never enforce the law. Tell your senator that this is an extraordinary effort to blackmail the American people by having officials state that they will fail to perform their sworn duty, and we won’t stand for it.”
