Did President Bush get the British Prime Ministers memo about not using the term muslim and islam in the same context with terror? President Bush gave a speech today where he managed to cloud the issue of exactly who is pissed off at us. We are back to…
Barry Goldwater duck because President Bush is going on the offense against extremists and radicals. You are forgiven if you don’t know the quote to which I refer. Here is is…
I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice. [applause] Let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.
Back to Basics [Kathryn Jean Lopez ]
From an American patriot who works on the Hill earlier today:
on this day in which we remember what we are fighting for - the President needs to use his last 18 months to do what he is doing right now at a speech to West Virginia Air National Guard. .. explaining why we MUST win this war.
So then we have the Corner highlighting a speech that President Bush gave today . It is an ok speech, certainly better than him pushing that immigration snake oil he has been wasting time on. But…how do you give a speech about the war we are in without naming either the Jihadists or Islam? Did they vanish? Are we fighting animists and Christians all of a sudden? And this quote from the speech shows President Bush to be alarmingly confused about our enemy…or perhaps he doesn’t realize that we know better.
We believe in an Almighty, we believe in the freedom for people to worship that Almighty. They don’t. They don’t believe you should worship the way you choose. They believe the only way you should worship is the way they choose. And, therefore — and, therefore, they will do anything they can to spread that ideology.
Are we talking about Al Qaeda or Saudi Arabia? Oops the Saudis are our “allies” in this war. Maybe we are talking about any number of other Islamic states that are engaged in the very same behavior if not to the same degree.
Remember back when Rumsfeld proposed changing the name of the war we are in from the War on Terror to the War against extremism? I mean hell even the war on terror isn’t really the correct name but its at least closer to the mark than war on really radical people.
Oh the hell with it. I guess we really will have to wait till an American city goes up in smoke. Maybe then someone in our government will find enough balls to name who exactly we are talking about when we say extremists. We can dream.
