Look I hate complaining about any large media outlet when they are taking an Democrats to task for supporting our enemies but…
CAIR’s boosters on the Hill, where it’s headquartered just three blocks from the Capitol, have known for some time that several people in positions of power within the group have been directly connected to terrorism and have either been prosecuted or thrown out of the country. Yet lawmakers have gone right on singing CAIR’s praises and doing its bidding. That agenda includes suing John Doe witnesses, censoring critics of Islamism and denying the FBI antiterror tools.
Starts off with a bang doesn’t it? This sounds like a blockbuster article and indeed showing the coziness that many Democrats have with this organization is definitely a big deal. But the train comes off the tracks in the very next paragraph.
These cheerleaders, who include a handful of Republicans (see box), also know by now that CAIR was named an unindicted co-conspirator in a Hamas terror-fundraising case last year. And that FBI wiretaps revealed that CAIR’s founder, Omar Ahmad, and executive director, Nihad Awad, last decade attended a secret meeting in Philadelphia with Hamas leaders and other terrorist sympathizers. How much more effective would this article have been had they mentioned the fact that our very own President Bush thought it was a good idea to…
Meet with Nihad Awad from CAIR! Who said such lovely things as this (courtesy of ANTI CAIR) Nihad Awad is to the President’s left. This picture is featured on CAIR’s very own website. President George W. Bush at the Islamic Center of Washington, D.C., September 17, 2001.
Nihad Awad Executive Director CAIR “I am in support of the Hamas movement.” “Our administration has the burden of proving otherwise. (Awad’s response to muslim accusations that federal raids were a War against Islam and Muslims)”If you love Israel, you’re OK … If that is the litmus test, no American Muslim and no freedom-loving person is going to pass that test.”
Are we scoring points for Republicans or defending the Republic? Folks tend to have a lot more respect for a position put forth by the press if it is seen as non-partisan.
We are in the fight for our lives against an enemy that has nearly 1400 years of experience at war and it is crucial for everyone to hold every politicians feet to the fire when they mess up. It is even more crucial for the public to understand that these sorts of warnings are not merely partisan bickering but legitimate worries.
Yes they made mention of some of the Republicans who are under the sway of CAIR. But failing to mention the President’s involvement in empowering one of our enemies does us no good. I see the task of the press as keeping our government’s feet to the fire. Not merely keeping one party or the others. All of us are in this together. Sure the Democrats seem to be most willing to surrender but don’t forget that the hard right is not overly fond of our war against Jihadists.
Witness folks like Patrick Buchanan 6 and Grover Norquist 1 arguing against taking the war to our enemies. It is enough to remember that both Democrats and Republicans have dirt on their hands when it comes to appeasing our enemies. Finally I wait for the day when our very own President Bush speaks out against CAIR as forthrightly as Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer did .
Dec. 29, 2006 - In a highly unusual move, Sen. Barbara Boxer of California has rescinded an award to an Islamic activist in her home state because of the mans connections to a major American Muslim organization that recently has been courted by leading political figures and even the FBI.
Boxers office confirmed to NEWSWEEK that she has withdrawn a certificate of accomplishment to Sacramento activist Basim Elkarra after learning that he serves as an official with the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). After directing her staff to look into CAIR, Boxer expressed concern about some past statements and actions by the group, as well as assertions by some law enforcement officials that it gives aid to international terrorist groups, according to Natalie Ravitz, the senators press spokeswoman.
Contrast that behavior with the behavior below and then understand that we have work to do on both sides of the aisle.
WASHINGTON, Dec. 27 The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today welcomed an announcement by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) that it has provided special training about Islamic traditions related to the Hajj, or pilgrimage to Mecca, to some 45,000 airport security officers. The TSA cultural sensitivity training includes details about the timing of Hajj travel, about items pilgrims may be carrying and about Islamic prayers that may be observed by security personnel.
Hmm…an organization that Senator Barbara Boxer is concerned about is involved with the main organization tasked with making sure more airliners don’t run into buildings. Double hmm…
