The audacity and idiocy of the press continues unabated. Certainly much of this is driven by the fact that no one feels much danger these days. But regardless believing that it is immoral to force a reporter to give up his sources when those very same sources are breaking some very serious laws strikes me as absurd. Naturally it doesn’t strike the press corps as absurd…they have a right to aid and abet treachery in our supposedly secret services.
The Bush administration is prolonging the hunting season against journalists.
Wouldn’t that sentence be more appropriate if it stated that the “Bush Administration is prolonging the hunting season against our “secret agents” who refuse to hold secrets. Which by the way is a project that the Bush administration has failed miserably at so far. One might be forgiven for wondering just exactly where the hell our counter intelligence agencies are when these clowns release information to public sources. I mean hell if our vaunted counter intelligence agency cannot even figure out who is releasing to public sources how in the hell will they ever catch someone releasing information to secret sources like Iran’s agents? One might be forgiven for wondering why Iran even needs secret agents when they can merely read the New York Times.
The latest victim is James Risen, The New York Times reporter for national security and intelligence affairs. About three months ago, a federal grand jury issued a subpoena against him, ordering Risen to give evidence in court. A heavy blackout has been imposed on the affair, with the only hint being that it has to do with sensitive matters of “national security.” Who leaked the details of a CIA-Mossad plot against Iran? – Haaretz – Israel News
So then, we are at this moment trying our very best to stop a nuclear conflagration from erupting, which it most certainly will do when Iran gets a nuclear weapon. We are attempting to avoid going to war to accomplish this laudable goal. We shall discuss the laudability factor further down in this brief article. So naturally it makes wonderful sense in the perverted mentality of this nations press to release details of how we are trying to accomplish this goal.
However, Operation Merlin, which was so creative and original, failed because of CIA bungled planning. The false information inserted into the blueprints were too obvious and too easily detected and the Russian engineer discovered them. As planned, he made contact with the Iranian delegation to the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna and handed over to them, also as planned, the blueprints.
A small case might be made that Risen is doing us a favor by releasing this information since we can direct our attention to the bungles of the CIA. If I believed that fixing the CIA was his intention I might be more inclined to attach noble motives to his writing but that would still not mean he can hide the identity of a person breaking the law inside of our government. But we all know that fixing the CIA is most certainly not his intention. Unless fixing the CIA means making sure that the CIA is so dysfunctional that no nation on earth might fear our ability to divine their intentions and secrets.
Now is it laudable that we are trying to stop Iran? Consider these provocations by their dear leader A Dinner Jacket.
TEHRAN, Iran (AP) – The president of Iran again lashed out at Israel on Friday and said it was “heading toward annihilation,” just days after Tehran raised fears about its nuclear activities by saying it successfully enriched uranium for the first time.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called Israel a “permanent threat” to the Middle East that will “soon” be liberated. He also appeared to again question whether the Holocaust really happened.
“Like it or not, the Zionist regime is heading toward annihilation,” Ahmadinejad said at the opening of a conference in support of the Palestinians. “The Zionist regime is a rotten, dried tree that will be eliminated by one storm.”
And this…
Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei also blamed Iran’s other arch foe, the United States, for Israel’s “military crimes” in Gaza and said “the hands of the US government are smeared with the blood of the innocent Palestinian nation”.
Opposition to Israel is one of the cornerstones of belief of Shiite Iran, which backs Palestinian and Lebanese Islamic militant groups opposed to peace with the country.
“It is with the support of that oppressive government (the US) that the Zionists (Israel) are committing these unforgivable sins with impudence,” Khamenei was quoted as saying.
“The Islamic (people) must rise and the Islamic leaders must hit the occupying regime (Israel) in the face with their nations’ anger.”
The statement came after Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas suspended peace negotiations with Israel, demanding it end the offensive.
Now some might claim that we should not be fighting either secretly using our agents or overtly using our armies in the cause of Israel. As if a possible nuclear confrontation between Israel and Iran would be a small thing. Avoiding such a catastrophe is in our nations vital interests. Not because of Israel alone but because of the millions of lives that will be lost on both sides of the war, because of the loss of the oil when all the nations around are drawn into it either because of direct actions aiding either Israel or Iran or indirect actions due to radiation fallout.
A world wide depression caused by the loss of the ME Oil Fields could very well cause another world wide conflict.
