Pilot’s Gun Goes off on U.S. Airways Flight…Wondering if the same person trained DEA Agent giving a gun safety lesson and the pilot? Government program?

Well guess this just about covers allowing pilots to have guns. I am all for it but this will surely be used by the nannies to disarm our pilots.

No injuries are reported after a pilot’s gun discharged on a U.S. Airways flight from Denver to Charlotte, N.C.

Airline and federal officials say Flight 1536 was not in any danger as a result of the incident, which occurred about 9:50 a.m. MDT on Saturday.

Officials say the unnamed pilot was allowed to carry the weapon as part of the Transportation Security Administration’s Federal Flight Deck Officer program. It was created after the Sept. 11th terrorist attacks.

The program allows eligible crew members ? including pilots, navigators and flight engineers ? to use a firearm to defend against any act of air piracy or criminal violence.

DEA Agent giving a gun “safety class” to a group of students shoots himself…pretty fucking hilarious actually because it doesn’t look like he is seriously injured. Watch the reaction of the other “adults” in the room. Absolutely stunned by this fools idiocy. I am guessing that the same guy trained this DEA Agent and the pilot.

Btw was reading about this on Ldot and one of the cowboys gave a lecture on how to carry a 1911. It seems that all cowboys carry their 1911’s at all times with a round in the “pipe”. That jargon talk gets me all warm and fuzzy. Apparently pulling a slide back is too much bother for them. So they would rather worry about badly designed holsters knocking the safety off so they can shoot themselves and others. Neato.

First, a modern handgun (and the pilots carry the HK USP Compacts in .40S&W with the LEM trigger) without a round in the chamber is silly. You just have an exotic paperweight at that point. Anyone who says otherwise underscores their novice level of competence with modern firearms.
Secondly, I understand that their current issue holster are crappy. A bad holster is a good way to have a negligent discharge. Maybe that was part of the problem; the story doesn’t say.

Israeli draw for me. Thank you. The time it takes to pull the slide is time spent thinking about whether the asshole ahead of me really deserves to be shot. Given the number of accidental discharges to deliberate shooting I will play it safe.
