No one teaches you how to shoot a rifle better than those colored hat fellows from Appleseed. No one. Have you been buying rifles and ammo “just in case”? Well if you have, you can be sure that there aren’t a lot of bench rests in any war zone. No sir, you are gonna have to learn to shoot standing, sitting, and laying down all without sand bags and such. Attending a 2 day Appleseed is exactly how to go about doing it
Go learn some history and learn how to use a rifle to defend your rights.
Whoever looks upon them as an irregular mob, will find himself much mistaken. They have men amongst them who know very well what they are about “. General Hugh Percy, on the actions of April 19th, 1775
Here is what shooting the AQT looks like from the pointy end of a Garand. Shooting over a 210 qualifies one to wear a rifleman patch. My best score so far is 187. This is with my Garand which is a 30.06 that shoots better than I do.
Trust me don’t do what I did and try to shoot 400 to 600 rounds, thats how many rounds you may shoot at a Appleseed, with a Garand 30.06. You will develop a flinch and your shoulder will be permanently moved back a couple of inches. Course you will gain a tremendous amount of respect for those fellas who toted one around for a few years in WW2. Rumor is some of them got so good they could shoot from the hip as well as most of us shoot from our shoulders.
Since my first two events I have purchased a new .22 Remington VTR 597 that is sweet. Supposed to be a real accurate gun and I have mounted a scope on it.
Here is my wife showing excellent form on her first day of the first Appleseed we both went to. It was pretty warm that day. Our friend Larry is in the foreground getting his sling ready for prone firing.
