Contrary to consensus forecasts, I look for June payrolls to contract net of the census impact, which would mean a reported total payroll decline of 250,000 or more versus current expectations of a 70,000 decline. Where a portion of the reported decline in the May unemployment rate to 9.7% from 9.9% in April was due to the census circumstance, an uptick in the June unemployment rate is a good bet.
