Rampant Looting After Katrina, a myth? Video tells the awful story.

Rampant looting a myth perpetuated by the press? Or a myth dispelled by a police department busy disarming law abiding citizens?

The Untold Story of Gun Confiscation After Katrina
Video and testimonials on the travesty that occurred in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina when police and law enforcement confiscated lawfully-owned firearms–at precisely the time citizens needed them most for self-defense!

Pilot’s Gun Goes off on U.S. Airways Flight…Wondering if the same person trained DEA Agent giving a gun safety lesson and the pilot? Government program?

Well guess this just about covers allowing pilots to have guns. I am all for it but this will surely be used by the nannies to disarm our pilots.

No injuries are reported after a pilot’s gun discharged on a U.S. Airways flight from Denver to Charlotte, N.C.

Airline and federal officials say Flight 1536 was not in any danger as a result of the incident, which occurred about 9:50 a.m. MDT on Saturday.

Officials say the unnamed pilot was allowed to carry the weapon as part of the Transportation Security Administration’s Federal Flight Deck Officer program. It was created after the Sept. 11th terrorist attacks.

The program allows eligible crew members ? including pilots, navigators and flight engineers ? to use a firearm to defend against any act of air piracy or criminal violence.

Warming Stopped 10 Years Ago? Nothing to see here, move along!

Just this week we found out in this post  that the Oceans were not warming, indeed there was a slight cooling (you might think that would get mentioned now and again) going on. Now we find out that a satellite we sent up in 2002 is turning over many of the premises scientists thought they knew about our climate models. And not only that but other signs indicate that our temperatures have not gone up for the last ten years that indeed again there had been a slight cooling. Hmm you might think that would get mentioned now and again? Hat tip Glenn Reynolds . Don’t miss the part at the end of this post that I have highlighted in red and bold and underlined…it is outrageous.

Duffy asked Marohasy: (Marohasy, a biologist and senior fellow of Melbourne-based think tank the Institute of Public Affairs) Is the Earth still warming?”

She replied: “No, actually, there has been cooling, if you take 1998 as your point of reference. If you take 2002 as your point of reference, then temperatures have plateaued. This is certainly not what you’d expect if carbon dioxide is driving temperature because carbon dioxide levels have been increasing but temperatures have actually been coming down over the last 10 years.”

Oops Storyline of Global Warming Freaks Shredding on the Reality of Our Ignorance

Thanks to Glenn Reynolds over at Instapundit for this link. Not mentioned at the link from Glenn is this little bombshell of information. NPR at least deserves some credit for publishing this strike against the Chicken Little’s who find any evidence of global cooling , evidence of Global Warming . But you would think that the fact they are finding a small amount of global cooling would be pretty big news. Maybe the Global Warming Hoax is less about saving us from a disaster than it is about plain old money ? Even scientists need money and when governments get the bit between their teeth no one gives out more. So if the Government says find something…you find it.

“There has been a very slight cooling, but not anything really significant,” Willis says. So the buildup of heat on Earth may be on a brief hiatus. “Global warming doesn’t mean every year will be warmer than the last. And it may be that we are in a period of less rapid warming.” The Mystery of Global Warming’s Missing Heat : NPR

Naturally this bit of news does match up with some other theories the Global Warming Freaks didn’t like to discuss except to call the scientists making the claims, shills for power companies or worse. Quick close the curtains so the black helicopters won’t see you reading this bit of news.

It’s Bush’s Fault part 2,578…New Orleans failure

If you are interested in what our country will look like if the Democrats gain power you need only examine New Orleans.  A study in liberal philosophy gone mad.

The blame game, and the violence that has rocked New Orleans over the past year, are “classic symptoms of people who have gone through trauma, especially when they feel someone else is responsible for that trauma,” Hill says.

Someone else is responsible is the central thesis of liberalism.  This allows them to make their demands on my income to correct problems they assert are my fault.

“This is a wholly preventable crisis. It does not have to happen,” he says. “If the federal government, which is the only entity that has the resources we need to fix the problems that we have - if they swiftly and effectively begin to address the issues of housing and joblessness and lack of health care, it would pull the rug out from under racial resentment. People would not feel abandoned, and they wouldn’t feel as if they had to turn to extreme politics to achieve their ends, both blacks and whites.”
View this article on Time.com  Healing Katrina’s Racial Wounds - Yahoo! News

No one has the resources to fix the crime problems of New Orleans except the people of New Orleans.  They have to decide to stop blaming others for their problems.  They need to decide they have had enough. Enough of a murder rate that makes them a joke.  To do that they need to understand it is not some white conspiracy that sees blacks 6 times more likely to die of murder than whites.  They need to stop believing that it is merely a conspiracy that sees blacks 7 times more likely to be a murderer than whites. From the Justice Department.

victims offender

They need to say enough to the idea that being a criminal is justifiable given past perceived injustices.  Once they accept as the people in Anbar province have accepted that criminals/terrorists are not acceptable and they start working with police to arrest the criminals we will see real improvements.

Slow recovery goes on in crime-weary New Orleans

Police superintendent Warren Riley said the district attorney’s office, after much public criticism, has improved in recent weeks, but he makes the point that crime is the result of deeper social problems that neither police nor prosecutors can resolve.

“Until we educate our youth, until we lower our poverty rate, until we lower our illiteracy rate, until we improve our society, we’re going to have these problems,” he said.

“We are in fact breeding a criminal element.”

(Additional reporting by Russell McCulley)

Nonsense and the fact that a police superintendent utters such bullshit means we are farther rather than closer to a solution. Poor people are not murderers.

Liberals have had control of New Orleans for a real long time and we see the results in its status as murder capital. We better get off our asses lest we be treated to the spectacle of the entire United States being transformed by this idiot philosophy when Hillary wins.

NOPD officer who worked Convention Center describes the days after Katrina

I think it is important to remember what Katrina was like.

Survivor stories: NOPD officer who worked Convention Center describes the days after Katrina “The people at the Convention Center were left high and fucking dry”: a Blotter/CP web exclusive

Dumas Carter, 30, is an eight-year veteran New Orleans police officer who wound up being one of just six NOPD cops on duty at the Convention Center complex after Katrina struck. A couple of days ago his brother, Frank Carter, placed a call to him for City Pages and taped his recollections of the scene in New Orleans and at the Convention Center in the days before help finally started arriving. Global Warming Hysterics…Fun with Photoshop

Pierre Legrand’s Pink Flamingo Bar

YIKES!!! TEXAS A&M Has 2 Steve Schroeders….and naturally because I haven’t eaten any crow lately one of them is indeed a Climatologist.  This hurts me more than you know because the rest of this post was much better researched. But fair is fair and I blew it when I screwed up on identifying Schroeder, sorry for misleading you.

UPDATED: Vicious Photoshop showing Polar bears where no polar bears would tread….

Lies don’t count when you are an Global Warming Evangelical on a mission to save the world from things you believe are bad. Well that’s the way the environmental lobby feels. Witness this latest attempt to scare us by the Guardian.

I mean holy smokes how much uglier can it get…if this is what is going to happen if we keep driving our Corvettes then I am selling mine tomorrow. Sheesh…look at that ass on Billary…oh my god the humanity. Alright obviously this is Photoshop after all no self respecting Polar Bear would be caught dead in the same picture with Dukakis and Kerry. But Chavez is pretty cool looking with his sand pail bra…heh? Thanks to Free Republic ….hehe. Yes I take global warming seriously…yessireee bob. Reeeeeal serious. Oops sorry for the photo but I couldn’t pass it up.

In an article impugning the morals of AEI they have the nerve to list Steve Schroeder as a “scientist” when he is simply a typically boring leftwing poet. Never realized that poets are experts on Global Warming.

One American scientist turned down the offer, citing fears that the report could easily be misused for political gain. “You wouldn’t know if some of the other authors might say nothing’s going to happen, that we should ignore it, or that it’s not our fault,” said Steve Schroeder, a professor at Texas A&M university.

Source: Scientists offered cash to dispute climate study | The Guardian | Guardian Unlimited

Here is Steve Schroeders short bio at Texas A&M.

[Steven Schroeder] grew up in the Texas Panhandle. He’s currently teaching in China, but his website provides the following for a bio: “his poetry continues to be rooted in the experience of the Plains, which teaches attention to “nothing that is not there” but more especially to “the nothing that is.” His poetry has appeared or is forthcoming in the Cresset, Georgetown Review, Halcyon, Karamu, Mid-America Poetry Review, Petroglyph, Poetry East, Rhino, Texas Review, and other literary journals. His most recent collection is Revolutionary Patience, published by Virtual Artists Collective in 2004.”

Course the environmentalists feel like they have a righteous duty to lie to get their message across.

“We have to offer up scary scenarios, make simplified, dramatic statements, and make little mention of any doubts we may have. Each of us has to decide what the right balance is between being effective and being honest.”

Stephen Schneider (leading advocate of the global warming theory) (in interview for Discover magazine, Oct 1989)

It might behoove us to know that dear Dr. Schneider has been all over the thermometer in his predictions of doom and gloom. Up or down who cares the result is the same, death and destruction and guess what, remarkably the cure is the same in both terrible scenarios, hobble modern society.

Schneider received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering and Plasma Physics from Columbia University in 1971. He studied the role of greenhouse gases and suspended particulate material on climate as a postdoctoral fellow at NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies. In 1971 Schneider was second author on a Science paper with S. I. Rasool titled “Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide and Aerosols: Effects of Large Increases on Global Climate” (Science 173, 138–141). This paper used a 1-d radiative climate model to examine the competing effects of cooling from aerosols and warming from CO2. The paper concluded:

However, it is projected that man’s potential to pollute will increase 6 to 8-fold in the next 50 years. If this increased rate of injection… should raise the present background opacity by a factor of 4, our calculations suggest a decrease in global temperature by as much as 3.5 °C. Such a large decrease in the average temperature of Earth, sustained over a period of few years, is believed to be sufficient to trigger an ice age. However, by that time, nuclear power may have largely replaced fossil fuels as a means of energy production.

One of the questions we need to ask is whether these Environmental Evangelicals are on mission is to save us from global warming or if global warming is merely a tool to bash our way of life. For instance:

“Even if the theory of global warming is wrong, we will be doing the right thing — in terms of economic policy and environmental policy.”

Tim Wirth , while U.S. Senator, Colorado.
After a short stint as United Nations Under-Secretary for Global Affairs (4)
he now serves as President, U.N. Foundation, created by Ted Turner and his $1 billion “gift”

Lets not forget that this latest attack on Modern Society is coming from the United Nations which has not shown any great brilliance on any particular issue. Why would we take a report produced by people like Tim Wirth and completely modify our society. Tim Wirth is a spectacular pillar of leftist nonsense…consider:

Wirth has also been a consistent advocate of the global warming theory . While in the Senate, he co-sponsored legislation that would, among other things, give priority to international aid programs that “enhance access to… bicycles, carts, pack animals, and similar affordable, non-motorized vehicles” for the purpose of reducing use of fossil fuels (greenhouse gases), relegating the recipient nations to a perpetual Third World status. Yet, even he has admitted doubts about the global warming theory: “We’ve got to rid the global warming issue. Even if the theory of global warming is wrong, we will be doing the right thing, in terms of economic policy and environmental policy.”

Most recently, Timothy Wirth was at the center of controversy when the Clinton Administration decided to deport 13 Chinese women who sought asylum in the United States to avoid forced abortion or sterilization under communist China’s one-child policy. By offering asylum to the women, Wirth explained, “we could potentially open ourselves up to just about everybody in the world saying ‘I don’t want to plan my family, therefore I deserve political asylum.” Apparently, Wirth believes government forced abortions and sterilization constitutes “family planning.”

Then we have our friends to the North with their very own moonbats…

”No matter if the science is all phony, there are collateral environmental benefits…. Climate change [provides] the greatest chance to bring about justice and equality in the world.”

Christine Stewart, Minister of the Environment of Canada
recent quote from the Calgary Herald

What do real Scientists say about “Global Warming”?

Consider Dr. Jane E. Francis a honest to goodness scientist in exactly the right field with exactly the right background to comment on the Climate:

” What we are seeing really is just another interglacial phase within our big icehouse climate.” Dismissing political calls for a global effort to reverse climate change, she said, ” It’s really farcical because the climate has been changing constantly… What we should do is be more aware of the fact that it is changing and that we should be ready to adapt to the change.”

Or consider Petr Chylek’s comments on why scientists use scare tactics.

“Scientists who want to attract attention to themselves, who want to attract great funding to themselves, have to (find a) way to scare the public . . . and this you can achieve only by making things bigger and more dangerous than they really are.”

Petr Chylek
(Professor of Physics and Atmospheric Science, Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia)
Commenting on reports by other researchers that Greenland’s glaciers are melting.
(Halifax Chronicle-Herald, August 22, 2001) (8)

Dr. John R. Christy is not impressed:

“…the Earth was evidently coming out of a relatively cold period in the 1800s so that warming in the past century may be part of this natural recovery.”

Dr. John R. Christy
(leading climate and atmospheric science expert- U. of Alabama in Huntsville) (5)

Then this from the Illinois State Museum.

“If ‘ice age’ is used to refer to long, generally cool, intervals during which glaciers advance and retreat, we are still in one today. Our modern climate represents a very short, warm period between glacial advances.” Illinois State Museum

And if the weather is changing then take a look at a actual scientific study backed by some of those things that seem to be so rare these days in so many different parts of science, facts. Sorry there is very little hysteria in this article so I can see why it isn’t very popular.

Willie Soon is a physicist at the Solar and Stellar Physics Division of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics and an astronomer at the Mount Wilson Observatory.

Solar Variability and Climate Change

The purpose of this article is to give you some details about the research which my colleagues (especially Sallie Baliunas and Eric Posmentier) and I have done in studying the controversial relationship between the Sun’s energy output and Earth’s temperature, in short, the sun-climate connection. Despite what you may have heard before about sun-climate studies, there are in fact demonstrable connections between our Sun’s changing energy outputs and Earth’s climate. This paper will use the best information currently available to explain what we do and do not know about the many aspects of the sun-climate connection

And we have this extremely illuminating paper:

UNDERSTANDING COMMON CLIMATE CLAIMS
(THIS IS A DRAFT COPY OF A PAPER THAT WILL APPEAR IN THE
PROCEEDINGS OF THE 2005 ERICE MEETING OF THE WORLD
FEDERATION OF SCIENTISTS ON GLOBAL EMERGENCIES)
RICHARD S. LINDZEN
Alfred P. Sloan Professor of Atmospheric Sciences
Massachusetts Institute of Technology

After spending years describing the physics of climate to audiences concerned with global warming, I came to the realization that I was speaking to people who were not aware of the basic premises of the issue. The listeners were typically under the impression that the case for climate alarm was self-evident and strong, and that concern for the underlying physics constituted simply nit-picking in order to see if there were any remotely possible chinks in the otherwise solid case. Given that most people (including scientists) can rarely follow 15 minute discussions of somewhat complex science, the conclusion of the listeners is that the objections are too obscure to challenge their basic prejudice.

I decided, therefore, to examine why people believed what they believed. What I found was that they had been presented mainly three claims for which widespread scientific  agreement existed. While these claims may be contested, they are indeed widely accepted. The only problem is that these claims do not suggest alarm. Rather, upon careful analysis, they make clear that catastrophic implications are grossly unlikely, but cannot be rigorously disproved. Thus, the real situation is that the supporters of alarm are the real skeptics who cling to alarm against widely accepted findings. The profound confusion pertaining to this situation is only reinforced by quibbling over the basic points of agreement. Such quibbling merely convinces the public that the basic points of agreement must be tantamount to support for alarm. We will begin by analyzing the popular consensus.

So run around screaming that the sky is falling if you must but please leave me out of your preparations for disaster. Thanks to Global Warming: A Chilling Perspective

The war is not about Palestinian Rights

Charles Krauthammer skirts close to the reasons for this war against Israel but he never directly names it. This war is less about Jews and Anti Semitism than it is simply about the inability of Islam to allow different religions to regain territory lost to them by Islamic conquest. Zawahiri still bemoans the loss of Andalusia and let there be no doubt intends on correcting that blot on Islamic pride.

Less than a month after 9/11, Osama bin Laden and his chief lieutenant, Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri, had appeared on Al Jazeera. “We will not accept that the tragedy of Al Andalus will be repeated in Palestine,” Zawahiri said, drawing an analogy between the expulsion of the Moors from Iberia and the present-day plight of the Palestinians.

Even if Israel were a nation of Christians or agnostics the aims of the muslims surrounding them would differ not one bit. The drive would be to remove whoever was not muslim from ruling the lands. The more lenient muslims might grant Dhimmi status to those left behind but none would agree to being ruled by anything but Islamic laws.

Why They Fight : “But, again, who needs history? As the Palestinian excuses for continuing their war disappear one by one, the rhetoric is becoming more bold and honest. Just Tuesday, Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh, writing in The Post, referred to Israel as ‘a supposedly ‘legitimate’ state’ [’Aggression Under False Pretenses,’ op-ed, July 11].
He made clear what he wants done with this bastard entity. ‘Contrary to popular depictions of the crisis in the American media,’ he writes, ‘the dispute is not only about Gaza and the West Bank.’ It is about ‘a wider national conflict’ that requires the vindication of ‘Palestinian national rights.’

That, of course, means the right to all of Palestine, with no Jewish state. In the end, the fighting is about ‘the core 1948 issues, rather than the secondary ones from 1967.’”

No what we are seeing here is the resumption of Islams drive to convert the world by sword. A drive that its central figure Mohammed began with his sword and which was continued by the millions of Islamic swords after his death. To argue that a religion founded on violence and whose expansion was largely the result of violence initiated by its own leader, to argue that it is peaceful is to strain credulity. Many try to compare the Crusades to the violent expansion of Islam, Thomas F. Madden does a terrific job of dismantling that bit of Islamic propaganda.

What is so tragic about this war is our leaders absolute refusal to name our enemy. We are in a “War Against Terror” whatever the heck that means. If this were WW2 I suppose that President Bush would have declared us to be in a war against the Blitz or a war against the Aircraft Carriers of Japan.

We are in a war against Islam . This ugly fact cannot be avoided. In war against your homeland one does not get to choose who your enemies are, they define themselves by their actions. But it is certainly possible to deceive yourself as to the nature of your enemy with all the terrible results that denying reality brings.

But it does not follow that we will find ourselves opposed by all muslims. Just as so many Christians would not follow the Church if it were to call for dramatic actions at any time in the past so to will large numbers of muslims turn a deaf ear to calls for the wholesale murder of anyone not muslim. But these muslims live in societies where to openly deny Islams right to dominate the earth would be tantamount to treason. So they sit quietly hoping that we can win the battle against those who wish us dead. But we cannot win this war until we recognize who the enemy is. It is the same enemy Charles Martel vanquished in Tours in 732 , the same enemy Ferdinand and Isabella vanquished in the Reconquest , the same enemy who was defeated at the gates of Vienna this enemy is not a tactic though terror is its primary means of victory, this enemy is a religious philosophy. Fairly soon we need to recognize this ugly fact.

Crime in New Orleans??? Who knew?

UPDATES BELOW and EDITING Text to do something, anything with that first sentence.

One of the biggest jokes in the coverage of New Orleans during and after Katrina were the people pushing the meme that the massive crime wave following Katrina was merely hype by an overactive media. Yea yea yea…we didn’t find stacks of bodies in the Superdome, but there is a wide gulf between not finding stacks of bodies and stating there was no crime, see my post The Myths about Katrina Myths .

It is a gulf into which our Police Force and arrogant political officials will gladly step into in order to cover their asses. Anyone remember the lengths officials went last year to cover their asses? Going so far as to make disappear the evacuation plan which had been availible to the public on the City’s Website? For a time Dear Mayor Nagin was himself the source of the most sordid of the tales last year. Then he remembered that after Katrina was over he just might need to have a viable tourism industry. Oops everyone and their mother started backpedaling on the crime statistics. All of a sudden we had reports that there was absolutely NO crime in New Orleans except some scattered looting. Even that was forgiven as what anyone would do in those circumstances as if everyone would break into a Walmart wearing New Orleans Police Uniforms and fill up on VCR’s and DVD Players.

The right side of the blogsphere rushed into the void to defend President Bush who was being maligned, unfairly as usual, as the center of all evil by the usual suspects. What they forgot or perhaps didn’t even know is the New Orleans Police Department is under Federal investigation for falsifying crime statistics in order to show some progress. Which brings us back to the present as New Orleans exposes its criminal side with that horrific shooting in a way that even the most creative apologists cannot hide.

This is why so many of us in Louisiana thought it was hilarious that people were actually buying into the crap that there was no crime in New Orleans during Katrina. That would have meant that one of the top cities in crime would have all of a sudden reformed without the benefit of a police force since while many of them were doing the best they could it still wouldn’t account for the absence of crime. For a terrific first hand report of what was going on this take by a New Orleans Police office in the very heart of the trouble should hold lots more water than the mealy mouthed attempts following the disaster to paint a rosy picture.

FOXNews.com - Mayor Wants Nat’l Guard to Patrol New Orleans After Deadly Shootings - Crime : “Today is a day when New Orleanians are stepping up. We’ve had enough,’ Nagin said. ‘This is our line in the sand. We’re saying we’re not going any further.’Nagin said the weekend’s slayings were unspeakable and he would not allow criminals to take over at a time when it is trying to rebound from its worst disaster. He said he had spoken to the governor about his request for as many as 300 National Guard troops and 60 state police officers to patrol the city.”

UPDATED: It is worth noting that a request for National Guard in Mississippi was dismissed by the Commander of the National Guard in that state. Apparently in Louisiana when you want to play politics the National Guard will go along. That is depressing. Michelle Malkin is jumping into the story .

The Myths about Katrina Myths

Sorry Ed please don’t take this personally but for a while now these sorts of articles have been getting under my skin. Not because the MSM does not deserve to be attacked when they are wrong but simply because we seem to be so anxious to prove the media wrong that we jump to the wrong conclusions ourselves.

For instance one of the big sites that was often linked to by nearly everyone on the rightside of the blogsphere was Gateway Pundit. A site that I believe does excellent work. But let me use one of their posts about Katrina to illustrate a point.

One of Gateway Pundit’s posts about Katrina that was linked to often was the “More Hurricane Katrina: Folklore vs. Fact ” The first entry was:

Folklore: Hurricane Katrina was the worst natural disaster in the country’s history

Fact: Hurricane Katrina is the seventh worst natural disaster in US history.

Wow we were “only” the 7th worst natural disaster! That was wrong on so many different levels that its hard to know where to start. But lets simply start with the fact that at the time Gateway Pundit wrote that bit of fluff, we were still pulling bodies out of the water. In fact when Gateway Pundit posted that bit we had already assumed the dubious title of 5th worst natural disaster, so while attacking the MSM for getting the story wrong, he got the story wrong. It was also in my opinion fairly unseemly to be crowing about the fact that we were “only” the 7th worst when indeed at that point over 9,000 people were still listed as missing. Indeed at this very moment there are still over 5,000 adults missing and 1,500 children missing. No doubt that not all of them are dead but still perhaps a bit of decorum is called for especially since we are STILL finding bodies, 30 last month.

A lot was made of the fact that the Media regurgitated Mayor Nagins claim that we might have 10,000 dead as if that were a figure that Nagin pulled out of his ass. Many different sites crowed that the MSM was perpetuating myths without any basis in fact and that it was absurd to have claimed that upwards of 10,000 might have died. Again the blogsphere got the story twisted and wrong…blatantly wrong.

Matter of fact Nagin didn’t pull those figures out of his ass. He pulled them from the Federal Agencies responsible for disaster planning. NOAA had predicted up wards of 50,000 dead in a hurricane hit similar to Katrina, Red Cross had predicted between 25,000 to 100,000 dead in simulations that both had run. It was entirely plausible for Nagin to make that claim especially considering how quickly the waters rose in such populated areas like St. Bernard and Plaqumines.

The media has a lot to answer for, indeed they did get major parts of the story wrong in Katrina. It was shameful that they used our tragedy to attack President Bush. It would be ashamed if we in the Blogsphere also used the tragedy to attack our enemy the MSM.

At this point a Major US city is no more. Less that 100,000 people sleep in the city overnight. Enormous portions of the city will never recover. Let that sink in for a moment…a US City has been effectively destroyed. Not sure how much the MSM overhyped it, but it would be ashamed if we made less of it, to attack the MSM. More than 5,000 Adults and 1,500 children from La. are still missing. Chill a bit on the minimizing eh?

Terrible times in the Superdome an eyewitness account…

UPDATED #2 TERRIBLE NEW! I SENT THIS EMAIL TO THOSE WHO HAVE HELPED ME SO FAR!

Thank you for linking to me and helping the situation. I am again depending on your help. I don’t know if you have any contacts with FOX but I believe out of all the organizations down there they may be the only ones competent enough to help. The confusion about who is responsible for what is criminal.

My mother in law Dr. Darken who I contacted you earlier about called last night at 8:00PM pleading for us to find someway to get them out of the Hyatt where they were removed for their safety because of the situation in the Superdome. The Hyatt is becoming dangerous as well. Then at 4:00am she contacted us again to beg for food and water. She would not be begging if it were not dire. She is a brilliant woman but not the strongest physically. I am in terrible fear of her life.

Can contact someone in FOX NEWS to highlight this story? They won’t let anyone down there to help, they wont let anyone leave, they won’t feed them and they won’t give them water. The outrageousness of this is beyond my ability to express. These are doctors and nurses who worked for the city in the Shelter of Last resort. They did not stay there because of studity or negiligence but because it was their duty. The City and State governments are allowing these people to die. Some of the most highly trained staff in New Orleans are being allowed to die because of the gross incompetence. I cannot express the frustration I have to be sitting a mere 60 miles away while one of the kindest and best pediatricians is suffering and heaven forbid dying. Please help.

If you would like to talk to me please call

PLEASE EMAIL ME IF YOU CAN HELP AT fleetdefender@cox.net

I have strep right now and may not be able to stay at work much longer due to contagious policies. I do not have internet at my house.

Please help.

UPDATED Thanks to all who linked to this story! My mother in law contacted us today to say that she is alright…here is an email I sent to Michelle Malkin who was kind enough to link to this story.

Thank you so much Michelle. We heard from my mother in law today. She was moved to the Hyatt when it started getting crazy in the Superdome. She is still in New Orleans and as crazy as this seems wants to come up to Baton Rouge for a day or so then return to help. I have to say that my mother in law and I could not be further apart politically but she is by far the bravest person I know. Her daughter is only a step behind. Last night Karen (my wife her eldest daughter) drove to Houston a 5 hour drive because we got a rumor that Dr. Darken was being shipped to the Astrodome. She arrived at 4:30 and because she was not allowed into the Astrodome she stood outside waving at all the buses hoping that if her mom was in one of the buses she would see Karen and be heartened. My daughter Anna, who drove that yuppie woman crazy on the flight from Las Vegas to New Orleans when she was little bitty, seems to have both of those terrific women in her. She was recently seriously injured spent a month in the hospital, from March 4 to April 4 with 5 days in Intensive Care and was the picture of stoicism. Must be that Irish/English Yankee blood….cause I know if someone tried to stick all the stuff into Anna into me I would be blubbering like a big fool.

Anyways rambling cause I am so happy to have gotten word. Karen is still in Houston tracking down some people for others in Baton Rouge.

Careful of the reporting that chaos is cranking up in Baton Rouge. We have been tracking down all these reports in our efforts to keep our membership safe and not one of them has been accurate. We are talking to first hand sources. For instance there was a rumor flying around that the Bocage Country Club had been robbed. False. They laughed when we asked. But all of Baton Rouge is in a panic and rumors are flying.

Thanks again for all you do….

Pierre Legrand

Here is a first person account of what is going on in the Superdome right now. I came to this by my plea to my Club membership by email for information regarding my Mother In Law who went to the Superdome on Sunday to help as a Pediatrician. Read this account by another Dr and understand why we are all so worried about those who went to help.

I have the name and phone number of this Doctor’s wife and am willing to disclose it to any news organization willing to highlight this tragedy in the making in the midst of the nightmare of Katrina.

Please spread the word!

Dear Friends and Family,

As many of you know, Ross has been in the Superdome in New Orleans since noon yesterday working alongside Acadian Ambulance medics to help the sick and injured refuged there from Hurricane Katrina.

He was able to get through to me by satellite phone at 4 AM today. I want to share his news with you, in the hopes that you will press your government officials and even the White House to take action as soon as possible.

Ross arrived at the Superdome at noon yesterday, as more and more people were being brought in after being rescued from floodwaters. He said that countless people had seen their family members drown right beside them. When he arrived, several emergency helicopters had been sitting on the helipad outside the Superdome for 2 hours…and no one was directing that patients be put on them to be evacuated. Ross took charge and started getting people on and helicopters out.

There are now 20,000 people inside the Superdome. The only medical personnel at the Superdome are Acadian Ambulance paramedics and EMT’s and a small team of doctors and nurses from New Mexico. They are exhausted understaffed and out of medical supplies. The only current source of medical supplies are those that Acadian is able to ferry in. Dialysis equipment is no longer functioning. Sick people are getting sicker. 30 people have now died in the Superdome, including one suicide. Ross said there have been at least 2 rapes.

There is no running water and sewage is overflowing in the bathrooms. There is no electricity or air conditioning (it is expected to be 95 degrees outside today). The back-up generators are expected to fail later this morning.

There is no plan to provide for an evacuation of the 30,000 people in the Superdome. There is no plan to evacuate the people trapped in their hotels and houses (who are almost or completely out of food and water)—when the floodwaters were still low enough, these people were simply told to “go to the Superdome”. Now they are sitting outside the Superdome because there is no room inside.

Satellite phones are not working very well, and the officials inside the Dome are having trouble calling out for assistance.

New Orleans is in a desperate state of chaos including, and the Federal Government needs to step in at a higher level than FEMA and the National Guard: we need the resources that the US Armed Forces can bring to bear.

I am writing, actually BEGGING, you to contact any elected official you know at any level to urge the White House and Pentagonto to take immediate action to step in at a greater level. Many more lives will be lost in the next few days if action is not taken.

Thank you!

Robin

We need blood in New Orleans…give blood please.

In Baton Rouge we are getting slammed with people. Last night while looking for her Mom at the emergency shelter, my wife met an elderly couple from Lakeview who had been rescued from their rooftop yesterday morning. All day long they had been thankful to be sitting on metal chairs in front of the shelter. We put them up for the night since last night I scored a generator from a terrific friend whose power came back up yesterday. Today we brought them to the Baton Rouge Airport so they could fly to Houston.

We are in desperate need of Doctors, Nurses, supplies and blood. Please take some time today to give blood, there were a tremendous number of injuries and much of the blood supply in NO may have been spoiled.

As of today we have heard that nearly 460 busses will be taking all of the people out of the Superdome and bringing them to the Houston Astrodome. I have made arrangements to have some friends look for my Mother in Law in Houston. They should be arriving by 8:00AM.

Jonah Goldberg…speechless at the level of idiocy this post required.

At one time the National Review was a useful tool of the Conservative movement. This is no longer the case and hasn’t been for sometime. Jonah’s post of Aug 29 proves that point. I try not to use vulgarity very often but fuck you Jonah, fuck your ever so carefully cultured superiority, fuck your assumption that you are better than anyone stuck in the superbowl. Fuck you…

Here is the post and the incredible idiocy of the statement proves beyond any shadow of doubt that the Corner has passed beyond usefulness.

ATTN: SUPERDOME RESIDENTS [Jonah Goldberg]
I think it’s time to face facts. That place is going to be a Mad Max/thunderdome Waterworld/Lord of the Flies horror show within the next few hours. My advice is to prepare yourself now. Hoard weapons, grow gills and learn to communicate with serpents. While you’re working on that, find the biggest guy you can and when he’s not expecting it beat him senseless. Gather young fighters around you and tell the womenfolk you will feed and protect any female who agrees to participate without question in your plans to repopulate the earth with a race of gilled-supermen. It’s never too soon to be prepared.

Well Jonah let me just tell you about one lady stuck in there right now…one of those residents you in your smug stupidity attack.

Dr. Mary Darken originally went to John Hopkins in her quest to gain a PHD in Micro Biology, before she could finish her dissertation she quit to raise her family of two marvelous girls. I speak from experience since I married the eldest one.

Dr. Mary Darken then decided to go back to Medical School after raising her daughters to the point that she wasn’t required 24/7. She became a Pediatrician and probably is the very best one I have ever known. When she had to decide which path to go she followed her desire to help people and worked in all the clinics around the city helping the cities poorest.

I don’t much agree with her politics but as a woman she is a tower of a person. You are not.

That is the sort of woman you are insulting. Your sort speaks volumes to the pitiful depths the once mighty National Review has sunk. You aren’t fit to carry her dirty socks much less walk beside her.

The ultimate irony is that should I ever get the chance to stick my fist into your slimy face Dr. Darken would probably stitch you up and comfort your pain. Prick, if you aren’t smart enough to post as an adult then stick to reading your marvel comics and playing your useless time wasters.
Save your sickly , overwrought apologies, your true nature has been exposed and you should be ashamed as should your parents.

Waiting for word on my terrific Mom in Law Pediatrician stationed in Superdome

We made it in Baton Rouge with minor problems. We are waiting for word on my terrific Mother in Law who is a pediatrician in New Orleans who went to the Superdome to help on Saturday. She treated 500 patients the first day. We are praying that she gets evacuated soon as disease and pestilence will not spare doctors. But we don’t know how to get her out.

Posting is difficult due to lack of power and phone in Baton Rouge. Pray for New Orleans and please stop passing around goofy statements like N.O. dodged a bullet. We didn’t dodge shit. Yea it could have been worse, but thats like saying the Tsunami could have been worse in Asia since 5 million could have died instead of 2 million.
